Nonprofit Research in the heart of Nature.

We founded Otter Creek with a single mission: to restore the balance of nature by correcting the wrongs we humans have forced on our environment. Otter Creek Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to conducting research, data collection and developing humane solutions to managing invasive species in our lives and ecosystems.

Otter Creek Foundation is an organization dedicated to protecting our environment from invasive and non-native species. We are running the Feral Hog Contraception Project where we work on Immunocontraception to attempt to stop the rampant breeding of feral hogs.  We are focused on finding an oral vaccine for the horrible disease Brucellosis which affects feral hogs and other wild animals and can be transmitted to humans and domestic animals. We are also focused on population control for other invasive species like pythons, iguanas, and monitor lizards.  Lastly, we are hoping to get approval to study and monitor the Endangered Lower Keys Marsh Rabbit, found only in the Key West area.

Gimpy is by far one of our favorites and the most needy. He is also a hero pig, taking on the care of the Three Orphans despite his own suffering and limitations. Help us to find a cure for his disease and help him to live a happier life with his new family.

Limpy was our sweetheart and our greatest ally in the search for our vaccines. Limpy was perhaps the smartest of all of the pigs and she learned many human words and actions. She would “sit” for treats, something she learned in three tries. She would also try to mimic what our team was doing around the facility. One night she even pushed the lawnmower out of storage and seemed to be trying to start it.

These three little pigs were separated from their birth mothers by trespassing hunters. Fortunately they found each other and somehow found Gimpy. Help us to develop the contraception solution so these piglets are not caught up in the breeding cycle. Help us to develop the vaccine for Brucellosis so these piglets do not suffer like Gimpy and the other pigs.

Miss Brownie is one of our original gang and the first piglets we watched from birth to adulthood. Brownie is smart and has a good disposition. When she contracted Brucellosis and could not stand the pain any longer, she came to us and spent many nights beside us as we nursed her back to health away from the other pigs. She is a good mother and often adopts other piglets that are neglected. Help us develop the vaccine for her horribly disfiguring and disabling disease.
